Expedia CruiseShipCenters set another sales milestone by booking a record $14.9 Million in cruises during their annual 1 Day Sale promotion. The sale, which featured Princess Cruises departures through to 2011, surpassed last year’s total by $1.4 million – a 10% increase.
“This is the fifth year for the promotion which began as a unique way to showcase the world of cruising,” says Geraldine Ree, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing at Expedia CruiseShipCenters. “Even with our strong historical performance, we always aim to improve each year. We are continuously inventing new ways to tell our customers that this is a great time to book a cruise by creating more enticing offers and sending more personalized marketing.”
The Caribbean is still the most popular cruise destination; however, this year’s 1 Day Sale promotion saw a 73% increase in exotic cruise sales over last year. 28% of guests who booked during the sale chose Exotic and Europe cruises lasting 14 days or longer. Exceptional pricing paired with reduced deposits, onboard credits and group amenities provided customers with more than enough incentive to book now.
More than 112 Expedia CruiseShipCenters locations and over 2,000 Cruise Consultants took full advantage of the promotion to increase their business and contribute to the record-breaking results. By engaging in extensive product training and following through with direct marketing, by hosting Cruise Nights and personally calling their clients, the agents themselves had a direct impact on the success of this promotion.
“The success of the 1 Day Sale hinges on an amazing team effort”, says Jan Swartz, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service for Princess Cruises and Cunard Line. “It takes months of preparation by virtually every department to achieve these kinds of results and our great working relationship with Expedia CruiseShipCenters makes this possible. We are already thinking about ways to make next year’s 1 Day Sale even better.”
