For most people, the word “cruise” evokes images of warm Caribbean waters and sun-drenched beaches. Although many cruise ships return to the Caribbean after a summer season of cruising Europe and Alaska; many others depart for more exotic destinations including South America, Australia, Asia and World Cruises of over 100 days. Expedia CruiseShipCenters has initiated The World Explorer Event based on the strong consumer demand for these exotic destinations.
“Over the past 21 years, we’ve introduced more people to the joy of cruising than any other company.” says Geraldine Ree, Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing for Expedia CruiseShipCenters. “Experienced cruisers are looking to speak with a knowledgeable cruise consultant, even more so than a new cruiser. Our World Explorer Training event specifically focuses on selling to the experienced cruise customer. It is very important that agents understand the entire cruise market and how to match the right customer to the right next cruise experience.”
The growing demand for exotic cruises and the increasing popularity of niche cruise lines that specialize in the luxury market prompted Expedia CruiseShipCenters to create an entire training event for its agents. The program, dubbed The World Explorer Event featured training by cruise line representatives who showcased the unique aspects of their onboard experience, destinations and ships.
If clients are hungry for exotic and luxury travel, Expedia CruiseShipCenters agents are eager to satisfy their appetite. More than 800 packed the Hilton ballroom for the training events held September 14 and 28.
Agents will put the training into practice during the World Explorer event. The October promotion highlights smaller luxury lines such as Seabourn and Silver Sea, river cruises by Uniworld, Viking and AMA Waterways, as well the premium lines Oceania, Holland America, Celebrity, Azamara and Princess Cruises.
